Oreocereus
(Berg.) Ricc. Br.&R. lists Oreocereus as a monotypic genus but later many species, varieties and forms were discovered. In early days the name O. celsianus was used for different plants but later settled on the thick plants when more were discovered while the name O. fossulatus was used for a thinner species of Oreocereus. Later the name O. neocelsianus was used and celsianus was droped but this did not catch on and neocelsianus is no longer used. The name is from the Greek signifying mountain-cereus. Flowers are red and forms of red. From Bolivia, S. Peru, N. Chile, N. Argentina.
