Harrisia

Harrisia Britton: Night-flowered cerei from the West Indies which, with one exception, are erect, shrubby to tree-like, i.e. they often form a trunk, this being the main character differentiating the genus from Eriocereus or, in the case of H.earlei which is prostrate, it is distinguished by the indehiscent fruits, this as well as the yellow to orange colour of the fruits being a constant character throughout the genus, whereas in Eriocereus the fruits are never of these colours and they split open. Distribution : USA (Florida) and Antilles.
